Sound (Audio) Engineer – Sikh Oral History & Music Repair Programme

About the Role

Sangat Trust is seeking an experienced Sound (Audio) Engineer to ensure high-quality audio production for the Sikh Oral History and Music Repair Programme. The role involves live recording support, post-production editing, and sound engineering for the Grand Finale event, ensuring all recordings meet TV-quality standards for archiving and public engagement.


Supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, this programme seeks to document and

promote the significance of Sikh cultural heritage, particularly its musical traditions.

Key Responsibilities & Deliverables

  • Live Recording Support
    • Capture and engineer high-quality audio for 10 oral history recordings and 10 instrument repair videos.
    • Ensure optimal sound levels, clarity, and cultural sensitivity during all sessions.
  • Audio Production & Archiving
    • Edit and enhance recordings to broadcast standards for digital archiving.
    • Deliver TV-grade audio files for long-term accessibility.
  • Grand Finale Event
    • Provide live sound engineering, mixing, and technical support for seamless audio delivery.

Deliverables and Methodology

  • Proposed Approach
    • Outline your methodology for pre-production planning, live recording, and post-production enhancement.
  • TV-Quality Standards
    • Specify equipment, software, and techniques (e.g., multi-track recording, noise reduction, dynamic processing).
  • Equipment & Resources
    • List required tools (e.g., field recorders, microphones, editing software).
  • Cultural Sensitivity
    • Demonstrate respect for Sikh musical traditions and oral histories in recording and editing.
  • Outputs
    • Professionally edited audio recordings (oral histories + repair videos).
    • TV-grade archived files for exhibitions, education, and media.
    • High-quality live sound at the Grand Finale event.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Proven expertise in live and studio audio recording (minimum 3 years).
  • Experience in cultural heritage or documentary projects.
  • Proficiency in broadcast-quality editing (e.g., Pro Tools, Audacity, Adobe Audition).

Familiarity with Sikh musical traditions (preferred but not mandatory).

Contract Details

  • Reporting line: Reports to the appointed Programme Lead and collaborates with the Trust’s Communications team.  
  • Start date 01/05/2026, 8 month contract with possible extension
  • Location: Based in the Midlands UK with flexibility for remote work where feasible.  
  • Evenings and Weekend work as and when required.
